Are you always mentally prepared for the worst? Do you believe that life may not give you a second chance? Or are you a typical carefree person who always tells himself “There is always a tomorrow?” Who is Peter Lanza?
Well, my dear readers, life is never that predictable. One moment you are on the train traveling to spend the holidays with your family you haven’t met in ages. You have sorry cards and gifts to make up for your absence and the mistakes you made to hurt them and are really looking forward to seeing your family. But Alas! Life had its own plans for you and the train you are traveling in suddenly gets off the track, causing you and hundreds of other passengers to crash straight into a mountain foothill. What just happened? Life.
But wait. With the downs may also come ups. It may be that at one moment you are on the verge of getting evicted and are under the fear of dying of starvation, while at the other you are jumping up and down because of the job offer you received because of the incredible skills you possess.
Well just like that, there was a fine day that unpredictably became the cause of lifetime trauma for many people. The horror incident that happened 10 years ago in Connecticut.
Who was Adam Lanza?
A young boy born on April 22, 1992, in New Hampshire, United States, Adam Lanza was an American national. His parents were Peter Lanza and Nancy Lanza. Adam had an elder brother Ryan and they all lived in a house owned by Nancy in Connecticut.
The nature of Adam Lanza
Ever since a young age, Adam has been said to be a shy child who found it hard to socialize with other people. Even though he enjoyed playing violent video games and going to watch dangerous games with his mother, he never showed any sign of danger or had never had a dark aura around him, according to his mother.
The family moved to Connecticut in 1998 due to Peter Lanza’s job. Nancy Lanza wrote to a friend from there that indicated the positive behavior and settlement of Adam Lanza in the new place. however, untrue to his mother’s observations, the Asperger’s syndrome Adam was diagnosed with still had its effect on the young boy’s mind.
What is Asperger’s Syndrome?
Asperger’s syndrome is another form of Autism, and at a level lower than the latter disease. Usually, students who are diagnosed with this type of syndrome are not as introverted as autistic students and might even be talkative and cognitive.
The traumatizing tragedy
Now that we know a little about Adam Lanza and what he was going through in life, let’s talk about the act that led this young boy to be engraved in people’s minds, and not in a good way.
It was the December of 2012, a few weeks before Christmas when Adam Lanza shot his mother dead. He put four bullets through Nancy and then drove to the Sandy Hook Newtown high school in Connecticut. Over there, the 20-year-old boy shot dead 26 humans, out of which 19 were children aged 6-7 years old, and 5 were adults from the staff.
The horror does not end here. After shooting all those innocent people, Adam Lanza shot himself as well. It is a wonder why he spared the life of his elder brother.
Adam Lanza’s parents were already divorced by the time this tragedy happened. Peter Lanza was only updated through his ex-wife about the disturbing habits of their son, and it was a miracle for him that he was not present there when his son slaughtered an entire human body.
Through the eyes of Peter Lanza
For a few years after Adam had died along with the others, Peter Lanza avoided the media. However, he gave an interview a few years back in which he somewhat poured his emotions into the world.
“With hindsight, I know Adam would have killed me in a heartbeat if he’d had the chance. I don’t question that for a minute. The reason he shot Nancy four times was one for each of us: one for Nancy; one for him; one for (his brother) Ryan; one for me” says Peter Lanza
Peter tried to meet with the families of the victims, out of which only two agreed to meet. Upon this, Peter said,
“I need to get some good from this. And there’s no place else to find any good. If I could generate something to help them, it doesn’t replace, it doesn’t. … But I would trade places with them in a heartbeat if that could help.”
This was a very positive sign for Peter Lanza, as the family who met him lost their 6-year-old daughter, Emily, to his son’s madness.
Assuming it was after the incident or before, Peter had wished his son was never born. He confirmed his feelings by saying in the interview,
“That’s not a natural thing when you’re thinking about your kid. You can’t mourn for the little boy he once was. You can’t fool yourself.”
Was the mother aware?
This is a tricky question to assume on behalf of the deceased. But according to Peter Lanza, Nancy never confided anyone about being afraid of her own son. He said,
“Nancy never confided to her sister or best friend about being afraid of (Adam). She slept with her bedroom door unlocked, and she kept guns in the house, which she would not have done if she were frightened.”
The elder brother of Adam Lanza, Ryan Lanza is alive and healthy. Well, physically he is healthy, but no one knows about the mental struggles he goes through in his daily life.
Conclusion
The reason for Adam Lanza’s madness just before the holidays is still unknown to the outside world. This is one of the reasons Adam would be considered a victim as well as a culprit for and to his crimes.
